Week 9 Eoc: Thoughts who think young!
The obsession of Youth in advertising started back in the 1960’s with the Pepsi commercial, “For those who think Young.” This commercial was targeted toward young , youthful teenagers and adults. If you drank Pepsi you were young and hip! The commercial consisted of a melody and images of young people drinking Pepsi. The Melody was singing over and over “for those who think Young.” We ask are self why is everyone so obsessed with being young? Why can’t we age gracefully? The media has trained us to always wanting to be young. The reason why is that advertisers target, their new product towards the younger audience; the younger audience is the trend setters, the make or breakers when it comes to a new product. The trend is constantly changing and the younger generation is always trying to be one step ahead.
It’s a good in advertisement because these companies are thinking for the long haul. They are going to catch their customer early and for life. By targeting the younger generations, is genius, because we have a life time to spend. Generally older consumers have all ready become brand loyal to other products. “It’s hard to teach old dog new tricks.”
